The Rirri (giraffa nocturnis) is a newly-discovered South American ungulate, found only in an isolated region of the Amazon rainforest in Peru. Closely related to the African giraffe, it displays similarities but is a separate species unto itself. It was long thought to be mythical, found solely in the folk stories of the residents of a few Peruvian villages, but its recent rediscovery has been a small victory for cryptozoologists who have been reporting sightings for decades. There are fewer than 100 rirri left in the world.

Males and females are both 4' tall and display little sexual dimorphism. The creatures are nocturnal, with dark fur and excellent night vision. Although they are herbivores, these fragile and vulnerable creatures have developed sharp canine fangs carrying a deadly venom to protect themselves against predators. They will only bite if severely provoked, being shy and gentle by nature, but it is not recommended to move appendages too close to the mouth of a rirri.

These beautiful creatures are severely endangered and likely to become extinct within the next few years if drastic measures are not taken to protect their existence. Please -- help protect the rirri!
